Sciatica is a radiating pain the goes down the leg. Often caused by subluxation of one of the vertebrae of the lower back and/or a bulging or herniated disc. Bulging & Herniated Discs are often used interchangeably as they are both technically bulges. Still, in a herniated disc, the nucleus (disc center) breaks through the annulus of the disc, which is the outer circle of the disc. Disc injuries are often caused by auto, work, and sports injuries. Disc problems in the neck are usually due to motor vehicle accidents and sports injuries, while lower back disc injuries are usually the result of improper biomechanics while lifting. Poor posture can aggravate disc bulges and herniations, leading to pinched nerves and pain. Don’t be alarmed by the words Bulging or Herniated. I have multiple in my lower back and neck and am still very active. Treatment includes chiropractic adjustments, ice, rest, stretching, strengthening, improved posture, and biomechanics.
